Create for Purpose

UPDATE August 2018:  this e-course is in the making but in a slightly different way than written in this post.

I am creating an online course where what you learn, is a good look inside yourself.

It's puzzled me for a long time how I can teach you something that is not a "how-to" or a do-this-and-you'll-get-10000-subscribers-and-a-brilliant-life-course.

We've all seen them. And I've done my fair share of them.

But we don't get the results of the teacher, because we're not them!

What I want to teach is life skills, and that's not very sexy. But it's helpful.

And actually, it's not just even life skills, but they are skills worth paying extra attention to.

I'm going to save you time and probably money too, as I have been studying these subjects for nearly 30 years.

Create for Purpose will involve stands for story, process, play, emotions, creativity, and self-compassion

I've done Marie Forleo's B-school, and Brené Brown's "Living Brave", "The Gifts of Imperfection", and "Self-compassion" with Kristen Neff.

I've taken courses on Creative Live and Udemy. And I have learned a huge amount from every single course.

Besides being a certified kaizen-muse creativity coach, I have read many books on creativity, taught creative workshops, and as highly creatively thinking person (multi-passionate/polymath/multipotentialite/renaissance person - whichever title you prefer), as well as knowing many creative women, I know a thing or two about why creativity is important paying attention to.

With creativity comes story, process, play, emotions, and self-compassion too.

This course is being created because of my experience in life.

My many jobs, my 8 years in management, my travels and 14 years living in London and Dublin, my coaching, and my deep interest in human development, Create for Purpose is the culmination of what I see as important knowledge to have to thrive in today's world. And how I see the future evolve.

You can think of Create for Purpose as the course you need to take before you start a business, before you do B-school, before you spend years and a whole bunch of money on trying to "find meaning" with your life.

Here's a taste of what Create for Purpose is going to be about:

Story:

We as people are wired for story. We respond to people's stories and I think we undervalue paying attention to the story of us.

So often, we tend to make up a story in our head, and we believe that story without questioning whether it's actually really true or not.

That's what the first module is about. You'll be asked questions like:

  • Using story to find out why you do what you do.

  • What is your story?

  • What story do you want to tell and why?

  • Can you identify the stories are you telling about yourself?

Process:

We'll talk about the creative process, the different stages and we'll make comparisons to life's process.

We will also talk about what it does to you when you focus on the work and not the end-result. There's going to be something about purpose and meaning.

There will be questions like:

  • What habits do you have?

  • What does your process look like?

Play:

What is meant by play and why play is important.

What are the health benefits of play - what do the stats say?

We'll talk perfectionism vs play - with some neuroscience thrown in.

I'll introduce you to a couple of Muses from my coaching. They are fun creative tools that'll help you along.

It's good to lighten up and have a bit of fun. I'm not for this really heavy seriousness - not for too long anyway.

Emotions:

I love this quote by Sir Ken Robinson: "We think as we do because we feel as we do"

We'll talk emotional intelligence, personality types.

Art speaks the language of feelings - how do we become emotionally robust and why is that important?

I'll also talk a little about the Law of Attraction:

"Become aware of how you're feeling because it is the fastest way for you to know what you're thinking"

Creativity:

Uh, this is close to my heart.

What is creativity and what is it not?

The future is creative, so how do we best "get dressed" for that?

We'll talk about how creativity is not some free-wheeling process, but it's work. But it's some of the best work you'll ever do :-)

Ignite your process - get some help from the muses.

Self-compassion:

First of all, we'll talk about what self-compassion is. It's one of those words that's thrown around, but what does it actually mean?

I'm inspired by Kristen Neff's work and she defines self-compassion like this:

  • self-kindness

  • common humanity

  • mindfulness

Creativity and self-compassion go hand in hand. I truly believe self-compassion is a key ingredient to a life well lived.

Kristen Neff has studied this for years and she has some interesting data.

So Create for Purpose is the course I'm working on where story, process, play, emotions, creativity, self-compassion will be what you get to dive into.
