There’s nothing like a good story. Either being told one or telling one. You remember a good story.
We are made of stories and we, as people, are wired for story. We get moved by story, by somebody’s story. And there is always one.
We are quick to judge people and presume we know how they are. But everybody has a story.
I often find, that when we see people who are outspoken, or successful, or seem to have their sh.. together, or are knowledgable, we presume things are easy for them.
But maybe they have worked, and fought really hard to be outspoken, successful, together and knowledgable.
I’m in college at the moment, and I am one of those outspoken students. I know for at fact, that some of my fellow students think it all comes easy to me. But they don’t know that I never said a word in Primary and Secondary school. They don’t know my story and how much I’ve worked to be the person I am today.
And the same goes for them. I don’t know why they react the way they do. A little, but not much, so it’s a question of being true to who we are and respectful of others.
You can control your story
This is where controlling your story comes in. And why it’s important to take that control.
Thing is, we live in habits. We do the same things every day. And we think the same thoughts today as we did yesterday.
Studies show that we have around 60000 thoughts per day, and 95% of them are the same thoughts as the ones we had the day before.
How crazy is that?
Only 5% left for new, creative thoughts.
Unless we do something about it.
So for example, if you think you have to be a certain way, because your parents were that way, then you’re not in control of your story.
But here’s what you can do:
These 3 questions will help you control your story
- What story are you telling yourself, about yourself?
- What story do you want to tell?
- Why do you want to tell that story?
This is the detective work most people don’t do to to move forward.
Albert Einstein said something like:
Insanity: doing the same thing over and over agin and expecting different results – Einstein via @katjahunter
Know this: to be in control of your story (your life) you must:
- Be aware that you have a choice
- Decide what you want your story to be
- Do the work it takes to break the habit you’re in now.
It’s thrilling, fun, detective work that only you can do.
