Are you familiar with creative cul-de-sacs?
A creative cul-de-sac is when you follow a new idea or project and it ends up nowhere. It’s a dead end.
I don’t remember how many creative roads I have been down. If you ask my husband, he’ll say “too bloody many”! 😀
If you are the multi-passionate way inclined, you’ll keep having that nagging feeling inside that say “this is not what you are meant to be doing”.
Are the creative cul-de-sacs caused by lack of follow-through?
Yes and no and it doesn’t have to be.
That’s the straight answer 🙂
Yes, I believe that some of the creative ideas we pursue don’t amount to anything because we lose focus and don’t follow through with the amount of work it takes to finish a project.
No, not all creative ideas are good, and the most intelligent decision you can make in that situation, is to call it a day. Or maybe it has simply run its course and it’s time to Kill Your Darling.
You had an idea, but the more you investigated and learned the more you could see the idea wasn’t that good. Never mind.
It doesn’t have to be because you have to practice creativity before you get any good.
Like kissing a few frogs before you find your Prince.
Denying yourself going down these creative cul-de-sacs is denying yourself a lot of learning from making mistakes.Nothing we experience is wastedClick To Tweet
And although we like to think we can, we can’t jump from level 1 to level 22 and get it right.
You gotta let yourself go down some roads that may or may not turn into being dead ends. The fun part is, we don’t know at the start where we end up.
That’s also the hard part. But imagine the opposite.
Imagine staying on the same road always. I know people who are living life on the same road. You probably do too. My mom is one of those.
That’s admirable and necessary for some. Personally, I would not.
Heck, I say jump on the multi-passionate merry-go-round.
All the knowledge you get will lead you to the place you seek. Most important is to enjoy the journey.
